1962: Alfie Hale was sold to Doncaster Rovers after just five appearances for Villa. He was spotted by the club whilst playing in Ireland for Waterford and signed for Villa in June 1960, but found a first-team place difficult to come by at Villa Park. No such problems at Belle Vue however, for he made 119 appearances at inside forward, scoring 42 goals. He later played for Newport County and won 13 caps for the Republic of Ireland.
