Barry BannanReserves favourite Barry Bannan ended the season on a disappointing note with defeat at Anfield last night but insists the 2007-08 campaign has been one to remember.

The diminutive Scot helped Villa to titles at both reserve and Academy levels, impressing supporters with his silky skills along the way.

Now he aims to build on progress made this term next season. He told www.avfc.co.uk: "It's been a great season for me personally and for the Under-18s and the reserves. We won two leagues and got to the FA Youth Cup semi-finals.

"All the hard work starts now though because we know we have to start all over again next season and we have to continue making progress.

"There are some good young players at the club and I think we've shown our potential this season. Now the coaches and the fans will be expecting even more from us next year. That's what it's like in football."

Villa reserves lost 3-0 to Liverpool in last night's Barclays Premier Reserve League Play-Off at Anfield but Bannan refuses to be downhearted.

He added: "It was disappointing not to beat Liverpool but you have to learn from setbacks. When Chelsea knocked the Under-18s out of the FA Youth Cup we got on with it and ended the season really well.

"I've worked hard on my strength this season and I'll have to carry on doing that. People look at me and dismiss me because of my size but I'll just have to keep proving them wrong."
