Double Delight
Curtis Davies says fulfilling two burning ambitions have more than justified his decision to quit West Brom for Villa.
The classy central defender is expecting a hostile reception when he returns to the Hawthorns tomorrow afternoon.
He moved to Villa Park on a season-long loan in August 2007 before penning a permanent contract in July 2008.
And the former Baggies captain insists European football and an England call-up proved his move across the Midlands was the right one.
He told AVTV Online: "It's not going to be a warm reception. West Brom fans are annoyed about the way I left and I think it will be hostile even a year on.
"But the last time I played for the Baggies I was booed on to the pitch and clapped off it. I know football opinions can change very quickly. But we'll see.
"I think the way I left didn't help. The summer bubbled up and I left on deadline day. It left the fans angry with me.
"But I have no regrets. I had to move for my career. I have stated my reasons many times. I wanted to play UEFA Cup football and secure a place in an England squad.
"Villa are playing in Europe now and I managed to get into an England squad.
"If my move isn't justified now, it never will be.
"But I can't keep justifying myself. I am playing regularly in the Premier League for a team in the top four.
"If I had moved sideways and just left for money, I wouldn't mind West Brom fans having a go at me, but I left to improve myself as a footballer and I believe I have done that."
