Saturday Papers
Sun: ASTON VILLA boss Martin O'Neill wants American keeper Brad Guzan from MLS side Chivas to replace Scott Carson.
Daily Mail: Scott Carson thinks Liverpool's £10million price tag on him is "stupid" and fears it could wreck his chances of a move. The England goalkeeper, 22,spent last season on loan at Aston Villa in a £1.5million deal, having had similar spells at Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton. Villa manager Martin O'Neill is considering a bid but Carson said: "It [Liverpool's valuation] is too much. It's stupid money. You pay £10m for a goalkeeper who is 27, 28 and the finished article. "To be honest, I'm far from the finished article. I've got another five years of learning. "I don't think Liverpool are stupid. So hopefully, they can help me out if there is a sniff of going somewhere. Liverpool have a great keeper in Pepe Reina and he's going to take a lot of shifting. It might be time for me to move."
Setanta Sports: Aston Villa defender Wilfred Bouma hopes to extend his stay at Villa Park and believes he is currently playing the best football of his career. Bouma's contract is up at the end of the current campaign, but the 29-year-old is confident the club will invoke an option to extend the deal by another 12 months. "In my three years we have gone from 16th to 11th to 6th, which is a massive improvement," Bouma told the Express and Star. "My Performances have gone the same way as well. "The extension to my contract is already there. I think we will get it sorted."
BBC: Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill says he may have to try to sign two goalkeepers this summer. Scott Carson's future is still unclear after the end of his loan spell with no agreement between Villa and Liverpool. If Carson does not return to Villa, Stuart Taylor will be the only senior goalkeeper at the club following the release of Thomas Sorensen. "I feel we should have three goalkeepers anyway, especially if we get into the Uefa Cup," said O'Neill. The Villa manager added: "Most teams have three goalkeepers. It's a specialised position. But we have a number of issues. "Scott isn't our player. We have first option on him, but I haven't discussed anything with him. Liverpool have the right to do what they see fit."
Sporting Life: Ipswich boss Jim Magilton has admitted he would be keen to bring Thomas Sorenson and Richard Wright to Portman Road. Sorenson lost his place in the Villa first team to on-loan goalkeeper Scott Carson and is eager for a challenge, while former Town favourite Wright is also out of favour at West Ham.
