Ashley YoungAshley Young has spoken of his delight at being named the Barclays Premier League Player of the Month for April.

The England international scooped the award after helping Villa to 10 points from 12 and scoring three goals as Martin O'Neill's men clocked-up 17 in four games.

Now Young is determined to round off an impressive first full Villa season in style at West Ham on Sunday.

He told AVTV Online: "I'm extremely happy to win this award. I had a good month and this rounds it off perfectly. The amount of goals we scored throughout the month was terrific. The boys were brilliant and those wins and goals got us back in the race for fifth place.

"We had some great results but the stand out has got to be the win against Birmingham. It was a great day for the players and the fans and the way we went about our job was exceptional.

"In a way this award is for the whole team. Without the other boys on the pitch this wouldn't have happened. We've worked hard together throughout the season.

"Gabby won this award in November, so this is the second for Villa this season. That just shows how well we've been doing."

Young continued: "It was a great April but we have to concentrate on what happens now. We're down to the last game now and everybody's looking forward. Hopefully Newcastle can do us a favour and we'll be looking to do the club proud with three points.

"I'm really pleased with my form throughout the whole season. I set myself goals and targets and I've achieved quite a lot of them.

"Sunday's quite a big one and hopefully all the hard work we've put in throughout the season will pay off come the end of the game."
