History: May 10
1998 Arsenal had already won the title and perhaps had one eye on the FA Cup final, Villa on the other hand had marched up the table on the back of eight wins out of 10 games and needed a win to make a push for Europe. There was only one goal in the game, a Dwight Yorke penalty which he cleverly chipped into the middle of the net while Seaman dived out the way anticipating a firmer shot into one of the corners. The chip caused much amusement amongst fans and the win meant Villa's European dreams rested in the hands of Chelsea who were due to play a Cup-Winners cup final the following week.Chelsea won the game and consequently sent Villa into the UEFA Cup.
Random Villa Fact
It took Cyrille Regis only 22 seconds to score against his old club, Coventry City at Villa Park in May 1992. Dwight Yorke doubled the score on 36 minutes for a 2-0 win. It was Villa's last league game before the formation of the FA Premier League. Regis' strike was the last time a Villa player scored in both the first and last game of the same season.
