A campaign is underway to honour one of the most influential figures in the history of both Villa and football.

After helping establish Villa as one of the great teams in England, club director William McGregor went on to found The Football League.

He went on to become both chairman and president of The Football League.

The Aston Villa Supporters Trust now want a statue to commemorate the life and work of the former Scottish draper. They will be holding a collection prior to the home game against Bolton to raise money for the project.

Villa will be part funding the campaign but it is still essential to give generously.
