Mirror: Curtis Davies admits he can understand why Liverpool target Gareth Barry may quit Aston Villa. Davies, 23, was skipper at Championship West Brom but wanted Premier League football and moved to Villa last August on loan ahead of a £10m summer switch. England prospect Davies appreciates Villa captain Barry, 27, might leave to fulfil his Champions League ambitions - with Chelsea also interested. "It is down to Gareth and it would be hypocritical of me to say otherwise," said crocked Davies, who is an ambassador for Grass Roots Football Live at the NEC from May 30-June 1. "I was captain at West Brom last year and chose to move on to progress my career so whatever Gareth is thinking, if he did want to leave, I could understand. "If he wants Champions League football, he is near enough going to be guaranteed that at one of the other clubs - you can't really hide away from that fact. "If you're at Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool or Arsenal it is something that is expected, while for us it is still an aim. "From a personal point of view, and as a Villa player, I would want him to stay but if Gareth did want to leave I wouldn't hold it against him."
Setanta Sports: Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill has been spotted at Bayern Munich matches recently, sparking speculation that the Irishman could be planning a bold bid for Bastian Schweinsteiger. The Germany midfielder has been linked with Serie A giants Juventus and Inter in the Munich media but it has also been suggested that O'Neill is an admirer of his talents and considering an ambitious move in the summer. With the 23-year-old chasing domestic and Uefa Cup glory this term, he would obviously have no shortage of takers if he was to consider leaving Bayern at the end of the campaign.
Independent: Curtis Davies insists he has no regrets about quitting West Bromwich Albion despite Tony Mowbray's side regaining their Premier League status. Central defender Davies will join Aston Villa on a permanent basis in a £8m deal in the summer after an initial season on loan from the Baggies. He is full of praise for the way Albion have won promotion despite losing the likes of himself, Jason Koumas, Diomansy Kamara and Paul McShane. But Davies is happy with the way his career has progressed at Villa and with winning an England call-up from Fabio Capello before suffering his ruptured Achilles against Arsenal in early March. Davies said: "I've got no regrets about leaving West Brom. My reasons for leaving were to play Premier League football and to push on and to try and get into the England squad. I've done that, albeit in a limited number of Premier League games so far, but from those limited games I managed to get into the England squad of 30 for the match with Switzerland.
Sun: CURTIS DAVIES last night admitted he will understand if Gareth Barry quits Aston Villa for Champions League football. Villa boss Martin O'Neill is desperate to keep his England midfielder next season. But Barry, 27, knows Liverpool are keen to pair him with Steven Gerrard and that Chelsea and Manchester United could also be interested. Central defender Davies, currently out with a ruptured Achilles tendon, said: "I was captain of West Brom last season and chose to move on to progress my career. "I obviously want him to stay. He's a terrific example on the pitch to all our players. But if Gareth decided he wanted to play in the Champions League next season, I wouldn't hold it against him. "After what I've done, I'd be a hypocrite to say otherwise."
Guardian: Theo Walcott and Gabriel Agbonlahor have been included in the England Under-21 squad for the friendly against Wales on May 15 in Wrexham. Walcott was an unused substitute with the seniors during the last international break, while Agbonlahor was on Fabio Capello's initial list for the France defeat before the squad was trimmed. Along with the Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart, both have a chance to impress Capello as there is no clash with the end-of-season friendly for the seniors against Trinidad and Tobago.
Times: Curtis Davies, the Aston Villa defender, insists that he has no regrets about leaving West Bromwich Albion, despite Tony Mowbray's team regaining their top-flight status. Davies, 23, will join Villa on a permanent basis in an £8million deal in the summer. "My reasons for leaving were to play Premier League football and to push on and try and get into the England squad," he said. "I've done that."
Daily Mail: Gareth Barry's future is the key topic of conversation among Aston Villa supporters. And it is easy to understand why. The England international can be used as a barometer for the aspirations of everyone at Villa Park. The midfielder has spelled out in unequivocal terms that he wants answers, and quickly, about the ambition of Martin O'Neill and the club's American owners. It is an interesting position, to say the least, that the Irishman finds himself in. The first point to make is that Barry is a fulcrum, the very heart of everything good about this Villa side. It would be a devilishly difficult job to find a replacement. It goes without saying it would be an expensive exercise, too. The reasons are obvious. He rarely misses a match and can fill in a number of positions with equal adeptness. He is experienced and at the very top of his powers. His performance rarely dips below seven out of 10. Moreover, he has 24 months left on a deal estimated to be in the region of £2m- a-year that he would almost certainly double should he move to pastures new.
Independent: Midfielder Ashley Young has been labelled the "best set-piece taker in the league" by his team-mate Gabriel Agbonlahor. "He deserves all the recognition," the striker said. "He's done well all season and his set-pieces have been outstanding. I get on well with Ash and that helps on the pitch as well."

Times: Curtis Davies, who will make permanent his loan move from West Bromwich Albion this summer, is not surprised that the club have as good as secured promotion. "They've played more as a team this season," the centre back said.

Sky Sports: Aston Villa defender Curtis Davies is hoping he will be back playing not long after the start of next season. Davies ruptured his Achilles tendon in March and he is on course for a return to action in September. "It is coming along, I have just come out of my boot which was holding me back but I am out cycling, rowing, and running on a trampoline. "I am not running on a hard surface yet, but the main thing is I am out of the boot now and I can step up the rehab now," he told Sky Sports News. "I believe I can be back before September - whether it is with a few weeks training in August and then playing or whether that is playing at the end of September after training in early September. "I am very confident the rehab is going well - the surgeon is happy, the doctor is very happy so everyone is given me the right signs to stay confident. I am going to keep striving and work really hard over the summer and hopefully come back stronger and fitter."
