Independent: Gabriel Agbonlahor has thanked the manager Martin O'Neill for keeping faith with him after the striker recently went 12 matches without a goal. "The gaffer showed a lot of confidence in me," he said. "He supported me quite a bit in the media. It is always good when you get the backing of your manager."

Mirror: Aston Villa have issued a hands-off warning to Chelsea over England midfielder Gareth Barry.

Sporting Life: Gabriel Agbonlahor has praised Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill for keeping faith with him during his recent goal drought. But the England Under-21 player insists he never lost confidence or belief despite failing to hit the target for 12 successive games. Agbonlahor ended that sequence last Saturday when he scored the second goal in a 4-0 demolition of Bolton at Villa Park. Now Villa will be looking to maintain their late push for a European spot at the expense of another bottom three side in Derby at Pride Park on Sunday. Agbonlahor said: "It was pleasing to get the goal last weekend but, as long as I was doing other things for the team as well, it didn't really matter who scored the goals. "It was nice to contribute and finish off a great move but I had been creating as well for other people. The lack of goals had not been worrying me at all. "I knew the goals would come. It was a matter of being patient and not letting your head drop. It has not affected my confidence. I really mean that."

Sky Sports: Aston Villa attacker Gabriel Agbonlahor is adamant he has not been suffering from a crisis of confidence in front of goal. The England Under 21 international ended a run of 12 games without finding the net in the 4-0 drubbing of Bolton Wanderers at the weekend. Manager Martin O'Neill continued to back the starlet in the press and Agbonlahor admits that helped him during his difficulties. "It was pleasing to get the goal last weekend but, as long as I was doing other things for the team as well, it didn't really matter who scored the goals," Agbonlahor said. "I knew the goals would come. It was a matter of being patient and not letting your head drop. It has not affected my confidence. I really mean that."
