Daily Star: Gutted Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill has told fans: I know this isn't good enough! Villa's disappointing run of three straight defeats and just two points from the last 15 has virtually ended their hopes of European football next season. However, Irishman O'Neill is not hiding, declaring: "We have got the crowds coming back in numbers and we want to do something to keep them there, which is something we have failed to do in the last few games."
Daily Express: Aston Villa's chances of qualifying for Europe next season have faded further with news that John Carew is out for two weeks. Martin O'Neill is paying for not strengthening his squad during the transfer window, with long-term injuries to Curtis Davies and Craig Gardner and now Carew out. The forward has a groin strain and misses Saturday's home match with Bolton and the following week's trip to Derby.
Birmingham Post: Villa Park could take on the guise of a Friends Reunited conference come 3pm on Saturday, as Gary Megson brings a Bolton Wanderers side boasting no fewer than three former Aston Villa players. And while Martin O'Neill's side will welcome back Gary Cahill, Gavin McCann and Jlloyd Samuel, midfielder Stiliyan Petrov insists Villa will not be gifting Bolton a share of the spoils.
Sky Sports: Martin O'Neill insists Aston Villa still have 'plenty to play for', but accepts three points against Bolton Wanderers are a must. Villa have failed to win in their last five matches and sit eight points behind fifth-placed Everton in the race for a Uefa Cup spot. Struggling Bolton visit Villa Park this weekend and O'Neill is determined to see his players regain the winning habit. "Though we lost at Manchester United, results for the most part went our way at the weekend, so we still have plenty to play for," O'Neill told the club's official website. "We've got six games to go and we need to get back to winning ways - starting this weekend. I wouldn't even start to talk about the Derby game. We have got a massive game against Bolton - an absolutely massive game.
Sky Sports: Moustapha Salifou is willing to bide his time and wait for his opportunities at Aston Villa. The Togolose midfielder joined Villa from Swiss side FC Wil last summer but did not make his first-team debut until the 3-1 victory against Reading in January. He has appeared as a substitute in two more games, including the 4-0 defeat to Manchester United at the weekend, but has yet to start for Martin O'Neill's side. However, Salifou's impressive performances for the reserves have seen him rewarded with a one-year contract extension, and he is happy to keep fighting for a place. He told the Express & Star: "I'm going fine here. I'm training well, it's a good club and I'm happy to be here. "I play regularly for the reserves. You don't change a winning team, so I've had to wait for an opportunity, but that's starting to happen."
BBC Sport: Aston Villa's Moustapha Salifou says he is determined to prove he can cut it in the Premier League this season. Salifou has found his chances in the first team limited to just three substitute appearances so far since his summer move from Brest. "I'm going fine here. I play regularly in the reserves and had to wait for my opportunity," he told the club's official website. "That's starting to happen. I have to keep working hard." Despite his limited chances, the 24-year-old is happy with his progress. "I've done well enough in the reserve team to earn a one-year extension to my contract and I have to seize my chance at the right moment," he said.
