Mirror: Martin O'neill wants to put an end to Paul Robinson's misery at Spurs by taking him to Aston Villa. O'Neill plans to swoop for the unsettled keeper in the summer, with Robinson hoping for a fresh start after losing his starting place for both club and England in what has been a difficult campaign. He battled back to again be first choice in Juande Ramos's side, but the Tottenham manager is looking around for another keeper. Robinson was hurt when he was dropped following a dip in form and would be prepared to quit White Hart Lane for Villa, who head the pack chasing him. Boss O'Neill is looking for a long-term answer to his goalkeeping problem, with Scott Carson set to return to Liverpool after a yearlong loan because Villa are reluctant to pay £10million to secure him. O'Neill's bid for Brad Guzan looks doomed because the American will struggle to get a work permit in time for next season. Robinson could cost up to £5m, which Villa can afford.

Independent: Craig Gardner [back] could return from injury for the visit of Sunderland tomorrow and may be required to cover for the suspended Olof Mellberg in defence. "He's a midfielder," Villa manager Martin O'Neill said. "But there is nothing to prevent him thinking he can play in that position."

Times: Craig Gardner is winning his battle to be fit for tomorrow after a back injury and may solve Martin O'Neill's dilemma over who should play at right back, with Olof Mellberg suspended. "Craig should be all right," the manager said. "I'm really pleased with him."

Sporting Life: Aston Villa host Sunderland tomorrow, but manager Martin O'Neill is looking to another Premier League side for his inspiration. O'Neill admires the work done by David Moyes at Everton and sees them as the ideal role model for moulding a side that can compete with the 'big four'. "If you draw any comparisons, Everton now have real strength in depth whereas, even when they qualified for the Champions League a few years ago, they might not have had that strength in depth," he said. "David Moyes' squad has got stronger and stronger and it has a depth to it - and that is what we would be looking to achieve at Aston Villa. We haven't got that at the moment."

Sporting Life: Martin O'Neill has insisted Aston Villa have not been affected by the fatigue factor despite having to operate all season with the smallest squad in the Barclays Premier League. O'Neill has had to play the likes of England trio Gareth Barry, Ashley Young and Gabriel Agbonlahor in virtually every game because of the lack of numbers. But the Villa manager believes the lack of involvement in Europe or any lengthy cup runs means his players have been able to cope. O'Neill said: "I don't see any fatigue and I don't see any reason for it. "If we were involved in European competition or the latter stages of the FA Cup or Carling Cup, then you'd start counting up the number of games you play. "If in those circumstances you were going in with the same players, week in, week out - plus those players getting no respite in international week - I'd understand if fatigue was involved. "But most of the players here want to play every single week because we haven't had those distractions."

Sky Sports: Martin O'Neill is confident fatigue will not be a factor for Aston Villa this season, despite operating with the smallest squad in the Premier League. The Ulsterman has exceeded expectations this term in guiding Villa to a present place of seventh, but concerns have been raised over their strength in depth. Key regulars such as England trio Gareth Barry, Ashley Young and Gabriel Agbonlahor have figured in practically every game but O'Neill is refusing to contemplate the likelihood of exhaustion. Confident that a lack of involvement in Europe and no prolonged cup runs can only aid fitness levels, O'Neill has backed his players to cope with a busy end to the season.

BBC: Aston Villa youth team coach Tony McAndrew says his squad will need to be handled sensitively following their FA Youth Cup semi-final defeat. Villa's youngsters were beaten 3-2 in Wednesday night's home second leg by Chelsea to go out 4-3 on aggregate. "They've lost and they're gutted but now we've got to work at picking them up," McAndrew told BBC WM. "This is where we need to look after them and get them going for our next game a week on Saturday."
