Villa crashed out of the Carling Cup on a night of real frustration against Championship outfit Leicester.

Matt Fryatt's second-half goal was enough to send the Foxes through as Villa never really got into their stride.

Agbonlahor was unable to direct his header from Barry's left-wing free-kick goalwards on six.

The early action was scrappy as both sides struggled for rhythm.

Kisnorbo headed wide on 14 as he rose to meet a right-wing corner. Moments later McAuley headed wide from Mattock's free-kick.

Villa might have had the lead on 22, but Agbonlahor's half volley was blocked by McAuley.

Maloney went even closer on 25, but saw his left-foot volley palmed over the bar by Fulop.

Davies went close on 29, but his header from a Barry centre was cleared by Hume.

Clemence blocked a right-foot volley from Petrov on 31 as Villa searched for an opener.

Harewood broke from the halfway line on 44, but was unable to get a cross in as Agbonlahor and Petrov waited in the box.

Maloney's low drive from the edge of the box was deflected behind by Kisnorbo on 46. Knight met Barry's subsequent corner with a firm header that was cleared off the line.

Fryatt fired straight at Taylor on 48 as Leicester broke down the right.

Reo-Coker tried his luck from the edge of the box on 62, but his rising drive was easily blocked.

Harewood's right-wing centre flashed across the face of goal on 68.

The visitors had the lead on 75 as Fryatt broke and fired an angled drive past Taylor from the edge of the box.

Davies headed narrowly wide three minutes later as he rose to meet Barry's free-kick from the right.

Maloney dragged a low right-foot shot wide of the upright on 81.

Fulop punched Young's right-wing cross to safety on 84.Moments later Agbonlahor fired across the face of goal from an acute angle.

Maloney tested Fulop with a well struck free-kick on 86, but the Leicester keeper palmed the ball to safety.

Berger then sent a free-kick straight at Fulop. Seconds later a Young free-kick was deflected behind for a corner.

Berger tried his luck from 35 yards on 90, but fired well wide of the target.

Agbonlahor fired over the bar in stoppage time as Leicester failed to clear a Young cross from the right.
