Villa clocked-up their most emphatic league away win for 37 years as the sorry Rams were put to the sword.
Not since Division Three victory at Oldham Athletic in November 1971 have the travelling Claret and Blue Army returned home celebrating a 6-0 win on the road.
Amazingly the goals came from six different scorers as Ashley Young, John Carew, Stiliyan Petrov, Gareth Barry, Gabby Agbonlahor and Marlon Harewood found the net.
Not a bad preparation for next week's Second City derby!
Carew fired straight at Carroll on four as he met Young's low cross from the left.
Carroll palmed Young's low drive goalwards on seven as Carew flicked on Mellberg's long ball.
Villa's Swede headed straight at the Derby keeper from Barry's corner moments later.
Laursen was on hand to clear as Lewis cross from the left on 12. Jones then dragged a low left-foot shot past the post.
Bouma's timely challenge was enough to deny Ghaly from the edge of the box on 18.
Villa had the lead on 25 as Young's right-wing free-kick eluded Carroll, under pressure from Mellberg, and found the net.
It was 2-0 a minute later as Derby only half cleared a Barry cross from the left and Carew slotted home a low drive from the edge of the box.
Petrov added to Villa's lead with possibly the goal of the season on 36, pouncing on Carroll's weak clearance and firing home from the edge of the centre circle.
Carew's low effort was cleared off the line three minutes later as Villa looked dangerous with every attack.
Moore headed onto the roof of the net from Lewis' right-wing corner on 43.
Ghaly almost reduced the arrears for Derby on 50, but dragged a low right-foot shot from the edge of the box narrowly wide.
Carew sent a rising free-kick straight into the Rams wall two minutes later.
Barry almost made it 4-0 on 53 but was denied by onrushing Derby keeper Carroll.
The Villa skipper made no mistake on 58, slotting into an empty net as Carroll could only parry Agbonlahor's angled drive.
At the other end Earnshaw sent a low shot from the edge of the box straight at Carson a minute later.
Laursen headed over as he rose to meet Young's left-wing corner on 64.
Carson brilliantly denied Earnshaw on 75, diving acrobatically to his right to palm a 25-yard drive away to safety.
Villa had a fifth a minute later as Agbonlahor rased onto Carson's long clearance and slotted past Carroll.
As Villa chased number six Agbonlahor back-heeled straight at Carroll on 78.
Villa substitute Berger fired narrowly wide from the edge of the box on 83. Agbonlahor then sliced wide.
Harewood did add Villa's sixth on 85, meeting Berger's through-ball and slotting low past Carroll.
Salifou went in search of a seventh on 87, but fired just over the bar after a neat turn on ther edge of the box.
