Villa remain unbeaten thanks to a superb solo effort from skipper Gareth Barry.
The man who should be an England regular produced a stunning goal to cancel out the Juan Pablo Angel own-goal that had given the visitors a second-half lead.
That goal came just minutes after Angel fired wide from the spot as Calum Davenport was dismissed for upending Gabby Agbonlahor.
As expected, The Holte End gave keeper Paul Robinson a warm reception following his midweek blunder for England.
A stop-start opening saw neither side really threatening the opening exchanges.
Baros played the ball across the face of goal on 14 after being sent clear by McCann's clever through-ball.
A minute later Taylor brilliantly denied Defoe as the England striker rifled in a shot from the edge of the box.
Baros and Angel linked-up well on 19, but the latter fired straight at Robinson.
Taylor denied Dawson on 22, saving from close-range as Villa struggled to clear a Murphy free-kick from the left.
Jenas dragged a low right-foot drive past the post from 30 ards on 26.
Taylor produced another impressive block to palm a Ghaly effort wide three minutes later. Berbatov then fired over the bar from the edge of the box.
Taylor parried a rising Defoe shot on 34, after the striker has dispossessed Hughes on the edge of the box.
Defoe dragged a low right-foot shot wide of the target five minutes later. Jenas then fired straight at Taylor, but the Villa keeper gathered comfortably.
Angel fired narrowly wide with a dipping effort from the edge of the box on 44.
After a slow start to the second-half, Barry sent a rising left-foot free-kick wide of the upright on 51.
Davis then fired over the bar from the edge of the box as Villa looked to break the deadlock. Robinson fisted a Petrov free-kick clear on 54.
Vila, clearly galvanised by Martin O'Neill looked livelier in the early stages of the second 45. Angel fired wide from distance on 55.
Agathe replaced Baros on 65 -the Frenchman moving to right midfield, with Agbonlahor slotting in alongside Angel up front.
Barry flashed a dangerous centre across the face of goal as he broke down the left two minutes later.
Robinson scrambled clear from Agbonlahor on 70 as Agathe produced an impressive run and cross from the right. McCann's follow-up went straight to the Spurs keeper.
Taylor comfortably collected a tame effort from Murphy on 73.
Villa were awarded a penalty moments later as Davenport hauled Agbonlahor down n the box. he Spurs man saw red Angel though fired wide from the spot.
Angel compounded his and Villa's misery on 76 as he met a Spurs corner from the right and headed past his own keeper.
Ridgewell met a Barry corner from the right on 81, but headed straight at Robinson.
Barry then levelled matters with his contender for Goal of the Season. The Villa skipper received the ball on the left, cut inside two challenges and curled a delightful shot past Robinson from the edge of the box.
Petrov almost put Villa ahead on 84, firing narrowly wide as O'Neill's men pressed for a winner.
Angel was brilliantly denied by Robinson on 88 - the keeper parrying a quick shot on the turn from Villa's leading scorer.
Chimbonda charged down Berger's long-range effort on 90. Angel then flashed a header across the face of goal.
